K10 Academy’s Adventure Dog Initiative — In Partnership with Oregon Dog Rescue

Your Gift Sends Rescue Dogs on Life-Changing Adventures

With your help, K10 Academy’s Adventure Dog Initiative gives Portland rescue dogs the chance to thrive. In partnership with Oregon Dog Rescue, we take shelter dogs on outdoor adventures that reduce stress, build skills, and help them get adopted faster.

The Difference You Make

  • 🐾 See calmer kennels: Adventures reduce anxiety and stress in the shelter environment.
  • 🐾 Watch dogs gain confidence: Dogs return with improved leash manners, focus, and basic obedience.
  • 🐾 Help connect them with forever families: Calmer, happier dogs are adopted faster and stay adopted.
  • 🐾 Socialization opportunities: Adventures allow dogs to meet new people, environments, and other dogs in safe, structured ways that build confidence.
  • 🐾 Exposure to new environments: From trails to beaches, varied settings help dogs adapt more easily to life outside the shelter.
  • 🐾 Community awareness: Outings showcase adoptable dogs to the public, strengthening connections to rescue efforts and inspiring support.

What’s Included in an Adventure

We’ve designed our adventures to meet the needs of different dogs:

  • Social Walk (1–2 hours): A gentle neighborhood or park walk, perfect for younger, senior, or shy dogs. These outings also help them get used to everyday environmental sights and sounds—like car noises, bicycles, or pedestrians—that can overwhelm nervous dogs.
  • Full Adventure (1–2 hours): Hiking trails, outdoor spaces, local waterways. Dogs enjoy fresh air, new scents, and calm social behavior practice.
  • Premium Outing (Half-Day): Extended adventures to beaches, rivers, or forest trails. Includes enrichment breaks, healthy treats, water, and a post-adventure rinse-off if needed.

Additional standards include:

  • Groups of up to 4 dogs, or one-on-one sessions for behaviorally challenged dogs.
  • Skilled trainers (1–2 per group), maintaining a 3–4:1 ratio for safety.
  • Pick-up and drop-off provided by K10 with safe crate setups.
  • Staff trained in canine first aid/CPR.

Share the Journey

Every sponsor gets to see the difference they’ve made. After each adventure, we share photos and video highlights so you can celebrate the progress. These updates let adopters, volunteers, and donors witness the joy and transformation in real time.

How You Can Help

Your gift makes every adventure possible. Donations are processed securely through Oregon Dog Rescue, and every dollar supports the Adventure Dog Initiative and the dogs in their care.

Choose the amount that’s right for you—whether it’s $25, $50, $100, or more—your generosity helps provide safe, structured adventures that change lives.

Future Impact

We aim to expand capacity to multiple groups each week, sending up to 32 dogs on adventures weekly. That’s more than 1,600 dogs a year at full capacity. Realistically, our first milestone is to serve at least 1,000 dogs in the first year. As we grow, we’ll share updates on adoption speed, reduced stress, and success stories.
