DOG TRAINING.
Private coaching for families, individuals, and especially rescue dogs — because every dog deserves to be a K10.
WE’RE NOT
JUST
TRAINERS.
WE’RE YOUR
PARTNERS.
At K10 Academy Dog Training in Portland, we provide ethical, results-focused dog training for families, individuals, and especially rescue dogs. Whether you’re just starting puppy training or working through complex behavior like leash reactivity or fear-based challenges, our private coaching sessions help you build a calm, confident, and connected life with your dog.
Rather than using cookie-cutter methods, we create flexible programs based on your dog’s behavior, your lifestyle, and your goals. You’ll leave each session with clear tools, a focused plan, and support that works in the real world.
“We help you understand your dog’s emotional state and shift behavior with empathy and clarity — not fear and confusion.”
WE SPECIALIZE
IN HELPING DOGS
& PEOPLE
COMMUNICATE.
From reactive dogs to new puppies to sensitive rescues — we meet every dog where they are, and every owner where they are too.
Reduce barking, lunging, and shutdown behavior with structured, science-based threshold management and real-world engagement skills.
Lasting change starts with you. We coach the whole household — because what happens between sessions matters as much as the sessions themselves.
Specialized support for newly adopted or sensitive rescue dogs adjusting to home life — trauma-informed, patient, and grounded in behavioral science.
Crate training, routines, independence, and impulse control — building the foundation for a calm, confident dog from the very beginning.
From separation anxiety to leash aggression, we address the root of the behavior — not just the symptoms — with structured, humane methods.
Understanding your dog’s emotional state is the foundation of everything. We teach you to read your dog so you can advocate for them — and connect with them.

RAY GARCIA
CO-OWNER &
LEAD TRAINER.
As a behavior-focused dog trainer in Portland and trusted partner to Oregon Dog Rescue, Ray has worked with countless dogs struggling with reactivity, fear, overexcitement, and shutdown. He started K10 Academy to bring that same level of personalized, compassionate support to the broader Portland community.
Ray’s style is structured yet flexible, honest yet kind, and always centered on long-term growth. He believes the relationship between dog and owner is the foundation of everything — training that doesn’t strengthen that bond isn’t training worth doing. After completing multiple advanced courses and diving deep into canine psychology, he set a standard for himself: to be the kind of trainer he’d trust with his own dog.
Today, Ray leads K10 Academy alongside Alyda — together they are the trainer behind Unicorn, a task-trained service dog, K10 team member, and the inspiration behind the Adventure Dog Initiative.
When a staff member at Oregon Dog Rescue described Unicorn, they didn’t mince words — sweetest dog they had, and one of the worst. Mouthy, reactive, unable to play with other dogs without starting a fight. She was too rough with people. She spent a long time in the shelter, got adopted, and was returned the next day. That’s when ODR called Ray.
What happened next is the reason K10 Academy exists the way it does today. Ray took Unicorn out of the kennel and into the city — the first dog he ever pulled from a shelter to train in the real world. That walk became the seed of the Adventure Dog Initiative. And Unicorn? She’s now a task-trained service dog, a K10 team member, and living proof that the dog everyone gave up on can become the dog that helps other dogs heal.
ALYDA GARCIA
CO-OWNER &
CERTIFIED TRAINER.
Alyda is the co-owner and a certified dog trainer with K10 Academy. In addition to training, she manages the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring every client and dog receives thoughtful, personalized support.
A natural leader and communicator, Alyda believes in the power of community outreach and has been pivotal in building connections with shelters across Portland to help dogs from all over the United States find — and keep — their forever homes.
Before starting K10 Academy, Alyda spent over 10 years in healthcare management — an experience that sharpened her skills in leadership, communication, and client care. She also volunteers weekly at Oregon Dog Rescue, preparing rescue dogs for adoption and supporting families so those adoptions last.
“Every dog deserves the chance to thrive — and every family deserves the tools to make that possible.”

ALL FIVE-STAR
REVIEWS.
I can’t recommend K-10 Dog Academy highly enough! Ray and Alyda were absolutely instrumental in helping my dog Twyla work through significant fear and anxiety issues. They really went above and beyond — the progress she’s made is something I’m genuinely proud of, and I credit a huge part of that to their guidance.
Ray and Alyda are consummate professionals. They helped me with my dog Machiavelli, who had issues with recall and getting aggressive around food. They gave me a step by step process that was easy to follow, and I am glad to say my odd dog has been a good boy.
I took my rescue puppy, Leo, to Ray for training. Ray took the time to learn about my personality and helped me understand how to work effectively with my pup. He is patient and kind, making the experience easy and fun. Leo is now 6 months old, and the training has made all the difference.
K10 academy has forever changed our home. Ace, our 3 year old yorkie definitely runs the household. He needed some serious help with his manners. Ray & Alyda were amazing. Ace is now friendly with other pets, can do all basic commands, doesn’t run out of the house, and of course barks way less! If K10 can help us, they can for sure help you!
The amount of time, effort, and genuine care put into helping us with our 80-pound shepherd mix has been amazing. It never felt like a one-size-fits-all approach. Honestly, I don’t think you’ll find another trainer in Portland who puts in this kind of effort. Really glad we found K10.
