The Real World Is The Classroom.

One good day can change a dog’s future. We take shelter dogs out of the kennel and into the real world — because stressed, overlooked dogs deserve the chance to show who they really are.

The Mission

OREGON DOG RESCUE
GIVES DOGS
A SECOND CHANCE.
WE HELP THEM
TAKE IT.

Oregon Dog Rescue does extraordinary work. The staff and volunteers there show up every day for dogs that most people have given up on — and that commitment matters deeply to us. Ray has volunteered at ODR every week because he believes in what they’re building.

But no shelter — no matter how dedicated — can give every dog what they need to truly decompress, build confidence, and show who they really are. That’s not a criticism. It’s just the reality of what a kennel can and can’t provide.

“That gap — between what a shelter can offer and what a dog actually needs — is exactly where the Adventure Dog Initiative shows up.”

Structured real-world outings reduce stress, rebuild confidence, and give each dog the chance to show their best self. When dogs feel better, they behave better. When they behave better, they get adopted — and they stay adopted.

How It Works

THE ADVENTURE
FRAMEWORK.

Every outing is structured around emotional state, safety, and long-term adoption success — not just getting a dog some fresh air.

1
Assessment

Each dog is evaluated for baseline behavior, stress signals, and readiness before their first outing. No two adventure plans are the same.

2
Structured Outing

Calm neighborhood walks, trail outings, controlled real-world exposure, and enrichment breaks — all guided by trained handlers following K10 protocols.

3
Recovery & Rest

Dogs decompress between sessions. Consistency in routine is what builds resilience — not a single good day, but a pattern of them.

4
Progress Tracking

Every outing is logged. Oregon Dog Rescue receives updated profiles — stronger adoption listings backed by documented behavioral progress.

Join the Program

THIS IS A
TRAINING
OPPORTUNITY.

You’ll build real dog handling skills under direct guidance — learning to read behavior, manage leash mechanics, and advocate for dogs who need it most. You come in not knowing much. You leave capable.

Hands-on training under a certified K10 handler

Leash mechanics, behavioral cues, de-escalation, handler positioning — real skills taught by a working professional, not a handbook.

Structured curriculum — no guessing

Orientation, K10 handler protocols, and ongoing feedback. You’ll always know what you’re doing and why.

Work with dogs who need you most

High-energy, reactive, and behaviorally complex dogs are exactly what K10 methods are designed for. This is where you grow fastest.

Be part of building toward free

The long-term goal is to offer this program to shelters at no cost. Every volunteer hour and every donation gets us closer.

About K10 Academy

THE WORK
SPEAKS FOR
ITSELF.

K10 Academy was built on one belief: every dog has the capacity to learn and thrive when given the right environment and the right handler. That belief is what drives the Adventure Dog Initiative.

We work weekly at Oregon Dog Rescue because we’ve seen what happens when a stressed, overlooked dog gets one good day outside the kennel. The change is real, and it matters — not just for the dog, but for every family waiting to find the right one.

Our approach is science-based, trauma-informed, and built around meeting each dog where they are — not where we wish they were. That’s true whether we’re working with a shelter dog or a client’s dog. The standard doesn’t change.

My dog Kubo was struggling with leash pulling and basic commands, but after just a few sessions with Ray, I noticed a significant improvement. His patient and positive approach made all the difference.

Our dog used to be reactive to strangers and other dogs. With Ray’s patient and dedicated approach, our dog’s behavior has improved immensely. We couldn’t be happier with the results.
